Its about time

I've passed by the new National Library and been to its carpark but yet to enter inside to browse thru the collection. I think its time that I do that. Can you see the moon at the top right hand corner? Cool. I miss the original library.

Singapore vs Thailand

Watching the 1st leg of the ASEAN Football Championship final from home live on Channel 5.
17 min - Goal!!! Noh Alam Shah scores after a shot from Mustafic Fahrudin falls into his path.
After our first goal, the game starts to fall apart with the game being disrupted frequently with Thais falling down like they were shot down.
45 min - Half time and Singapore looks comfortable with no genuine scare posed by Thailand so far.
50 min - Thailand scores a quick goal in the second half to equalise. Daniel Bennett fails to get inline with his defensive colleagues and the Thais beat the Singapore team's attempt at an offside trap.
80 min - Referee gives Singapore a penalty, the Thais protest and refuse to resume the game.
96 min - Its another 16 minutes till the Thais agree to restart the game. Mustafic scores from the spot into the top right corner.
I have to admit that Singapore came away with a 2-1 win in possibly the last game played in the National Stadium. A pity that the game ended in controversy.

Stats junkies

The Americans are real stats junkies. They throw up numbers for about every conceivable category and scenario they can think of. Take these charts of Kobe and Steve Nash for example. Red represents a high shooting percentage for a particular zone of the basketball court over the season, gray decent and blue poor. Steve Nash is insanely accurate!

Oddities

Saw this weird and disgusting car. What was the owner thinking??? Check out this cat resting on top of a UOB ATM machine.

Blood diamond

Its refreshing to watch a movie that has a morale to tell. It depicts a lot of violence in order to make the plight of the Sierra Leone people desperate and compelling. Definitely one of my fav movies of the year. Hang on!!! The year just started ;p

Ole ole ole ole ole oleeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Singapore escaped with a victory after winning the penalty shootout against Malaysia. Singapore was poor and only woke up briefly after going behind to Malaysia in the second half. The match again exposed Singapore's need for a pure playmaker who can dictate the game and make things happen in the middle of midfield. It also demonstrated yet again that our strikers are toothless when presented with decent chances in the opponent's box. We need to improve or be destroyed by Thailand in the final.
Scenes from today's match: Arrival at the National Stadium, East entrance, floodlights, crowd outside, familiar pillars, stairway, "No smoking" sign, field and grandstand in the background, wet blogger, warm-up, Singapore fans, match proper, score at the end of extra time and farewell sight.

I'm proud to have blooded 3 friends who have never watched the Lions live at the National Stadium before today. Darn... I damaged my vocal cords.
Clips from today's match: Kallang Wave, Celebration after our equalizer, missed header, celebrations after winning the penalty shootout and celebrations while heading home.

Malaysia 1-1 Singapore

My assessment: Singapore was lucky to escape with a 1-1 draw. Malaysia played well and dominated the entire match. Thank goodness Noh Alam Shah struck with a well-placed header to rescue us. Why the heck was Aide sent off? Anyways, I think that will work in our favour as Baihakki is younger and faster. With the away goal rule not applicable in this competition, we can start from scratch this coming Saturday at the National Stadium. Gooooooooooo Singapore!!! Will you be there? I will.

Phuket

Stayed at Laguna Holiday Club for the past three days. A sample of pictures from LHC and the surrounding resorts.

Activities over the three days. Being Singaporean, there would definitely be eating involved rite? We had tenderloin and white cod on hot stones. Found out from the waitress that they heat the stone up for 9 hours before serving. Tasted local Dim Sum but their local version means basically different variations of "Siew Mai"... they had yellow ones, greens ones, fried ones... you get the idea. Had Jap sashimi and Maki. Had a leisurely walk through the Old Phuket Town. Rested in a cafe called "Kopi De Phuket" and had thick Iced Cappuccino. Ronald and I. Had a chance to walk through a local market. Didn't dare to eat food from roadside and market stalls though.

Overall it was a good trip with a nice room and everything. The only two downsides were the heavy downpour on our first night and the 1.5 hour delay of our flight back to Singapore.
