The Blind Side

I'm a super Sandra Bullock fan. I heard about this movie on a talk show. Its based on a true story and the boy that Sandra's character takes into her home becomes an NFL player. Touching. Just watching the trailer gave me a much needed lift. Can't wait for the movie to be screened.

"Entourage" marathon

Spent the night lying in bed watching season 1 on my laptop. I love that show! Grateful for downtime to finally start watching it. Only seasons 2-6 left to watch. Haha.

Recharging

After a challenging past few weeks, I was in a comatose state for most of the day recharging my batteries. Day 1 of the long weekend almost gone... looking forward to chilling out the next 2 days.

Backlog

I have a backlog of reading material that I have either not finished or yet to start. I'm praying for spare time and energy to do so.

Does this sound like me?

Took one of those personality tests.

Explorer/Director
You are a skywalker. You love adventure, both intellectual and physical. And you greet new challenges with passion and bravery.

When you get interested in a project, you can become extremely focused on it, sometimes to the exclusion of all around you. You complete it carefully and thoroughly, often with great originality.

And because you have a lot of energy and tend to be enthusiastic about your ideas, inventions, and projects, you can be very persuasive.

You tend to like to collect things, experiences or ideas. And you are eager to make an impact on those around you, as well as the wider world.

Although you enjoy people and can be charming and humorous, you are not very interested in routine social engagements or boring people. You are comfortable being by yourself, pursuing your own interests.

People probably call you a non-conformist, an original. You like to have good conversations on important topics. People tend to admire you for your innovativeness. You make an exciting, though at times distant, companion.

Alexandra Arch

I have visited Henderson Waves and it was time to see Alexandra Arch. CH accompanied me on this trip. Illuminated building on the way to the bridge.
The Arch itself.

Pano pic of the arch.
Dabbled with a few effects.

Colleague

This is not a flashy picture... in fact its pretty simple but there's something about it that I like.

Its that time of year

Christmas is always a reminder of another year past. This year was a year of losses and pain. I came out of this period a grateful person and aiming to be a happy person. I look forward to a positive 2010.

Hoodwinked?

My first Python script

Haha... I printed "Hello world" by running my first Python script.

from ctypes import *

msvcrt = cdll.msvcrt
message_string = "Hello world!\n"
msvcrt.printf("Testing: %s", message_string)

Anniversary

Yesterday was my Dad's death anniversary and I paid him a visit with my Aunt. We may not have had the best of relationships but I'm at peace now. Its been 9 years already and I still felt sad standing in front of his ashes. It is ironic that the apple of his eye doesn't even care.

Trust?

I normally do not give strangers with sob stories money but today I decided to give a woman money because of my new mantra. I initially offered her S$10 but she requested S$20. She promised to call me at 9+pm tonight to return me the money but I never heard from her. Oh well. I guess her integrity is only worth S$20.

Wake-up call

I got up this morning to get ready for work and realised that there was no water. Hmmmm... how am I going to brush my teeth and bathe? Doh. I SMS'd my boss to tell him that I would be needing to take urgent leave.
Wow. This was really a timely reminder to not take things for granted. We are so used to turning on the tap and have an abundance of water flow out. Water is such a simple thing but yet it is so crucial to our lives. I have a renewed respect for it and now count myself blessed to be born in Singapore. I can't imagine being born in a third world country where you don't have a supply of clean water and not know when your next meal will be arriving.

Restoring GRUB

XP fucked up my bootloader so I couldn't boot up into Ubuntu. Had to restore GRUB and this was what I did.
  1. Booted up using a LiveCD. I used my Ubuntu 9.0.4 installer CD because it was the original version that I installed on my laptop.
  2. Opened up "Terminal" in LiveCD.
  3. Typed "sudo grub".
  4. Typed "find /boot/grub/stage1".
  5. Typed in "root (hdx.x)". "hdx.x" is what was displayed after running the earlier command.
  6. Typed in "setup (hd0)".
  7. You're done. Type "quit" to end.
