Evening glow

I like the glow from the setting sun. The patterns formed by the clouds are eye catching too.

She took everything

She took everything from me while I was away. She even took my Tintin plate. She also took away a part of me. All that is left is an empty shell and a heart that is in a million pieces.

New search engine

WolframAlpha is a new search engine that aims to compliment Google rather than compete with it. I would describe it as a search engine that provides scientific/mathematical answers to queries rather than producing your typical search result with tons of links for you to sift through. Examples of queries you can make are found here.
Came across another search engine, Cuil, in a linked article. It also has a unique way of presenting search results that is unconventional.

Apple hires security guru

Apple finally wakes up and realise that their OS is no longer in impenetrable to hackers. They hired a security guru to harden Mac OS X.

Efficient

Wow... it took less than 2 weeks to receive my free Ubuntu CDs this round. The last time I ordered the free CDs, it took more than a month to arrive.

There she goes

After almost 4 faithful years, my fav Kobes finally gives way. She was the best pair of sneakers that I have ever owned. Thank you for the good times. If only good things could last forever.

My luck is changing?

Last week, ML donated her Thinkpad to me. Today I opened my Gmail and read an email from Mediacorp informing me that I had won the Today newspaper's "Angels & Demons" contest. Far out!!! I won 2 tickets to tomorrow's premiere and "Angels & Demons" goodies.
After a horrible first half of the year, I'm hoping the 2nd half gets better.

"The One with All the Kissing"

Was watching a rerun of this episode of Friends. There's this scene where Monica and Chandler are secretly sharing a bubble bath when Joey knocks on the door. Monica quickly dives under the water when Joey barges in. He is going out to get fried chicken and asks Chandler if he wants any. Chandler tells him that he doesn't want chicken to get Joey to leave. Monica resurfaces after Joey closes the door. Chandler tells her that Joey was getting chicken and she says that she doesn't mind some chicken. Chandler yells to Joey and Monica goes underwater again.
This made me suddenly crave for fried chicken and I decided to run out immediately to get some from Arnold's Fried Chicken. Friends is "evil". Haha.

Cool!!!

My Macbook is now cool... literally. Got a full aluminum laptop cooler from Vizo. Its not a "Cooler Master" but its pretty effective. My Macbook used to heat up easily and burn my wrists while I'm typing. After trying out the "Ninja" cooler for a night, the laptop feels cool to the touch.
Definitely worth the S$45... it is S$10 cheaper than an equivalent "Cooler Master" model.

Glow

Love the glow from the lighting against the darkening sky.

Received!!!

My plea for donations was heard. ML donated her IBM Thinkpad laptop to me. Thanks Sheila!!! Don't worry... your laptop will be well taken care of and used for a good cause.

I've already wiped the drive and installed Ubuntu 9.04 on it. Far out!!! Keep the donations coming folks.

Pays to be Chinese

Huawei blatantly sold network devices running Cisco IOS for years. Their manuals were "cut and paste" jobs where they copied content from Cisco manuals. Because of lax intellectual property laws in China, Huawei was never successfully sued by Cisco and are now partners with Cisco.
This poor chap... stole Cisco's IOS source code and is in hot soup now. I'm not condoning his crime but just highlighting that life is unfair.

Calling for donations

Anyone has laptops, desktops or equipment that you longer want? Donate them to me please instead of throwing them away. I can make use of them.

Sucker punch

As if my life wasn't in enough turmoil from my personal issues, I got hit with another sucker punch last Wednesday when I was hit with a bad case of food poisoning. It was so bad that I spent 4 days on my living room floor weak from the diarrhea and lack of food. I only managed to keep down my first meal on Sunday night.
The root cause of this severe illness? Naan bread from Breadtalk. Guess which brand has now joined my blacklist?

Google server

Google builds its own servers hosted in their data centers instead of buying servers from hardware companies like HP, Dell and Sun. Another interesting point from the article is their choice of not utilising UPSs but instead mounting individual batteries to supply power in the event of power failure. Cool stuff.

Botnet hijacked

Researchers hijacked a botnet and analysed it. They discovered how the Botherders grew their botnet, what information was collected and the algorithm behind how their bots knew where to send back harvested information. Hacking the hackers... amazing stuff.
