Freeeeedddoooom!!!

I did something today that I should have done 4 months ago!!! I ripped off the freaking stationary tray that was hindering my movements at my desk. Neeeeehhh. I just took a pair of pliers and dismantled it that's all. I'm not that violent.
Aaaaahhh... it feels so good to be able to swivel my chair without knocking into that damn tray. Almost like walking around with boxers ;p

The Maldini legacy continues!!!

OMG. Cesare and Paolo both captained Milan and Italy. It now seems that Christian (Cesare's grandson and Paolo's son) is following in their footsteps by joining Milan's youth team at age 9. Scary!!!
Both won the European Cup for Milan as captains. Will history repeat itself?
Found this picture from Google but don't know if its really his son or some ballboy.

What is the meaning of life?

I don't know if its boredom or monotony but I've been questioning what the meaning of life is lately. Anyone has any answers please please please give it to me. Put it as a comment if possible.

Samples of my own "work"

The previous post included pictures taken by others so I decided to display my own "works". From left to right: View from the Singapore River, Raffles Place, Shanghai Museum, The Bund.

Skylines

I sometimes wonder how different my life would be if I had chosen architecture instead of IT. I have always been fascinated with drawing, designing and structures. I was actually offered architecture by University of New South Wales (UNSW).
I love skylines!!! I'm seriously considering pursuing a career in photography is I do get tired of IT Security.

Amazing!!!

Its amazing how this guy manages to have a blog entirely about Star Trek and William Shatner. Kudos to him!!!

Beware of airport computer terminals

Friends... be warned!!! Avoid using airport computer terminals to perform personal tasks. Strictly stick to surfing the net to pass time while waiting for your flight and nothing more!!!

Phhhhhheeeww...

I'm so glad that I got through the 2 hour exam. Its hard doing a short course and taking an exam at the end of it. I'm not exactly looking forward to my next one but in this industry, its hard to avoid. *sigh*

U read it here first!!!

Smokers be warned!!! The Singapore government is considering banning cigs in Singapore in 10 years time. That's good news to my ears but I know that it will be painful for my smoker friends.

MOS Spore

Yo yo yo. I love listening to MOS albums in the comfort of my room but see if you guys can convince me to go patronise MOS in Clarke Quay.

Security news

After talking to various friends, I realised that they are either not very security aware or have very false conceptions that makes me very concerned. I decided to periodically provide links to articles that I feel are relevant and useful to them in hopes of educating them about the dangers out there and to make them "think" security.
Think Firefox, Macs and Google are safe? Think again. Be paranoid.

On course!!!

Woooohoooooo. I'm on course this week so I don't need to work. But its quite stressful listening to theories and processes the whole day. Xianzzzzzzzzz but still better than getting at up 6am to report to work and slog like mad ;p

Seem familiar?

Did I already mention how much I love Dilbert? His comic strips so aptly expresses how I feel at work and the situations I tend to find myself in.

Information about open source

I was having a very interesting discussion with Jim about open source software versus commercial ones. Here's a link that provides very good background and information about it.

Niiiiiiiiccccee

I want to watch Quidam!!! Anyone else wants to join me? April found the guy scary and it took awhile to psyche her before she was willing to join me for this photo. Ahahahahahahah.

Don't get it!!!

Anyone enticed to buy baby milk powder after seeing this Point-of-purchase (POP) setup? Not me!!!

Lonely people

I love this paragraph extracted from this article.
"Inside a company of 1,000 employees, it's not uncommon to find just one or two security staff. Let's face it, these are lonely people. They're over-worked, understaffed, underpaid and they have no one to talk to. They fight the occasional virus outbreak, and they despise Microsoft's patch Tuesday, but otherwise there's only so much that can be done. They take smoke breaks."

Funny but true.

Trademark phrase

DB (who has requested to be referred to in the future as "Mixmaster") was on a conference call and I overheard him using the phrase "violent objections". That's my phrase!!! Damn I should trademark it ;p
He said "I'm a bad influence on him" when I raised this point with him. Hahahahahahha.

Asia's largest outdoor cinema!!!

How frigging cool is this? I got free tickets to experience it and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The scenery and atmosphere was nice but the only downside was that the sound was a bit iffy.
Tips:
1) Bring cushions/pillows
2) Bring a mat or something to lie on
3) Bring water, drinks and snacks
4) Bring raincoat or umbrella because the show goes on regardless of rain or "shine" (figuratively speaking becoz the movies start at night)

Got the answer to my first question!!!

Q) What happens if I scan a machine with 2 NICs using Nessus? Will I get the same results ie. ports open from scanning both NICs?
A) Services/applications can be bound to specific NICs so scanning both NICs should produce different results.

Two sides to every coin

DB agreed that yes... they ang mohs do get preferential treatment sometimes but there are instances when they don't. He mentioned an incident where a hawker ignored him and refused to acknowledge him even though he was right in front of the stall. He even raised his hand to get the hawker's attention but to no avail. You can't win them all ;p

Additional reason not to smoke

Smokers of the world... I have a new reason for you guys not to smoke. Criminals are now picking up cigarettes discarded after use and intentionally leaving them at the scene of their crimes to mislead criminal investigators. So if you want to avoid getting interrogated for something you didn't do, either stop smoking or find a better way to discard of your used ciggies ;p

Preferential treatment!!!

I was having a blast having dinner with April, Jim and Fenn at Fisherman's Wharf.

That was until we came across an incident of preferential treatment!!! It's always disgusting seeing Asians grovelling at the feet of Ang Mohs. For goodness sakes, they're not the only people paying good $$$. This place had a sign put up blatantly declaring that it was self-service but they went to the Ang Mohs table to take their order as evidenced below!!! They did not do the same for all the other people in the restaurant. My take? Asians have this inferiority complex that was inculcated from the Colonial days when we had to "serve" the Ang Mohs. People!!! Snap out of it... they pee and shit too just like us.
Disclaimer: I'm not racist. I have caucasian friends too. DB can vouch for me.

Scenes from around Boat Quay

Was walking around Boat Quay after our visit to the museum.

Vatican exhibits

I went to the Asian Civilisations Museum today to visit the Vatican exhibit. Enjoyed myself and here are the pics I took from the excursion. Forgot to mention this... we weren't allowed to take photos of the Vatican artifacts so sorry, I only have those taken from the Asian sections.

2 technical questions

1) What happens if I scan a machine with 2 NICs using Nessus? Will I get the same results ie. ports open from scanning both NICs?
2) What happens if I scan a machine using a scanning tool like SuperScan specifying its actual IP (eg. xx.xx.xx.xx) instead of 127.0.0.1? Does SuperScan send packets out to the hub/switch or does it stay local?

Willy Wonka chocs

I recall seeing Willy Wonka chocs in our supermarkets when I was younger but I tried finding them recently after watching Willy Wonka in the cinema to no avail. Strange considering the marketing folks are usually very aggressive in getting people to buy stuff.

Happy Bday Tagumi!!!

Happy bday bro!!! Hope you enjoyed the cake and company tonite.
