License agreement

Malware comes with its own license agreement. Irony considering that there is no honour amongst thieves.

Hacktivism

Chinese hackers release a program "anticnn.exe" that floods CNN's website with HTTP GET requests when triggered. This is in response to criticism by CNN and its reporters.
Damn!!! Where were these guys when I needed some major action while compiling content for my Honours thesis on Cyberwarfare?
Never piss off the Chinese.

* Hacktivism is "the nonviolent use of illegal or legally ambiguous digital tools in pursuit of political ends".

Legends

After getting KG... I'm now eying Magic Johnson and James Worthy. 2 legends from the Lakers 80s "Showtime".

Phishing

Phishing is "an attempt to criminally and fraudulently acquire sensitive information, such as usernames, passwords and credit card details, by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication"*.
My suspicion was peaked this afternoon when I received a link "http://freezebum.myc00lfriends.info"** from someone on my MSN contact list. I suspected that person's MSN account was hijacked by malware because:
  • The link was sent offline
  • The URL ended with ".info"
  • That person had not sent me an IM message since 2002
I fired up LinkScanner Lite to verify the authenticity of the link. It turns out that the link is one that is classified as a Phishing site. Far out!!! This is the first time that a malware has attempted to con me into going to a Phishing site by sending me a link via Windows Live Messenger.
People... you are warned yet again! Watch what you click or download.

Defensive Player of the Year

Kevin Garnett wins the NBA "Defensive Player of the Year". I've always been a fan of his but I felt that he showed too much loyalty to the Minnesota Timberwolves. I'm glad that he joined the Celtics this year. He finally has a chance of winning the NBA championship. I bought his action figure yesterday because I liked how authentic it looked. It is so lifelike that it even has his real tattoos on his arm.

Tian Tian Chicken Rice

Finally had a chance to sample Singapore's #1 food stall. Can you tell that Chicken Rice is April's fav food from her expression? My verdict? I thought the Chicken Rice was so so... the chicken was cold.

Evening stroll

Scenes while heading home on a Friday evening. I'm so glad its the weekend. Phew! Gotta got some welcome rest.

Gloomy skies ahead

The gloomy weather doesn't seem to be ending just yet.

Central

There's something about this signage that I like.

Unleash

I'm very happy that our National Football team has the support of sponsors, Nike. They've invested a lot of $ promoting the line of National Football apparel.

However, I felt they could have done more to make the football apparel more affordable. I feel its too expensive to pay almost S$90 for a jersey that has a Nike Swoosh, Singapore flag and the word "Singapore" on the collar.

Early morning illumination

Illuminated clouds taken on a January morning. Took this long to post them.

Holographic representation

Gorillaz performing "live" together with Madonna. Way cool!!!

My bucket list

Was inspired by the movie "The Bucket List"* to write down my own bucket list. In no particular order:
  • Watch the LA Lakers live
  • Visit Ewood Park and watch Blackburn Rovers play
  • See the pyramids
  • Visit Amsterdam and see windmills
  • Walk the Great Wall of China
  • Learn how to play the guitar
  • Buy a turntable and mix
  • Own an apartment in NY
  • Build an indoor basketball court in the basement of my house
  • Get a professional camera and take amazing photos
  • Go to a World Cup game
  • Chill out on a beach in the Maldives
  • Revisit "The Angel of the North" and spend a day there
  • Witness Cristo Redentor in person
  • Retire young
  • Retire by a lake in New Zealand
  • Dye my hair blue like Darren Hayes in Savage Garden's "Crash and burn" music video
  • Go on an African Safari
  • Witness Aurora Lights in person and photograph them
  • Tour South America
  • Visit Alaska
I will continue to update this list whenever I think of something new to add or an item to strike off.

* Good movie btw. Pretty predictable but inspiring nonetheless.

Star Wars inspired photography

Interesting... very interesting. For die-hard fans only I guess.

NBA Playoffs 2008

The playoffs have started!!! I'm stoked. I'm rooting for my fav team, the LA Lakers, of course. I'm also keeping an eye out for the Celtics in the East. Gotta love KG.

First it was floppy disks...

In prehistoric* times, viruses could only be spread via floppy disks. Virus writers then forgot about storage media and moved on to other infection methodologies. Seems that retro is in vogue again as there is an increasing threat where malware infect USB devices and use them as transport mediums. Beware what you stick into your PCs people.

* Ok... I'm exaggerating... before the advent of the Internet, emails and Instant Messenging.

In between thunderstorms

The weather has been very unpredictable lately... one minute its blazing hot... the next minute the wind is howling and hitting your face with fierce rain. You can imagine my joy at seeing sunny skies with clouds when its not pouring.

Glow

I like the colours and the reflection off the ceiling.

Sounds like an April Fool's joke to me

A NASA space station running Windows 3.1 is suspected to have been compromised via an uplink from their Houston office. Microsoft is trying to locate the original programmers (who have since retired) to assist with this crisis.
