Violence

Seems that I have been watching violent films recently. Watched "The Departed" in the cinema with my bird and rented "Munich". Hope the next movie I watch is something different.

Conspiracy

I seriously think that Apple intentionally designed their laptops as such. What do I mean? Its white, fragile and comes with no accessories. So what do you end up doing?
Buying a laptop bag, keyboard cover, LCD film, mouse, etc. Bloody conspiracy I tell you.
Anyways... here is my Macbook in its original box, taken out and my new laptop bag. There is a hole in my pocket and I haven't even gotten any other accessories yet.

No wonder

Now I know why I love pasta so much!!! The Chinese invented it.

Gotten a new entertainment device recently?

Video iPods purchased after 12 September 2006 contain a Windows malware. McDonald's gave away free MP3 players that contained malware too! You were warned.

Brainless

Singaporeans can really be a brainless lot. Here's two examples why. I was with my bird in the train the other day. We smelt a stench in the specific carriage we were in and we realised that someone has puked there. We quickly made our way several carriages away so that we could no longer smell the puke. When we were safe, we noticed that there were tons of people still seated in proximity to the stench. What's wrong with you people? Get the hell out of there.
I attended a Uni classmate's wedding dinner. Unfortunately, I had to sit at a table with strangers. One of them was separated from her husband. She couldn't stop mentioning that fact during the dinner and bitching about her husband. What's wrong with her? It's her friend's wedding for crying out loud.

More change

I blogged previously about things constantly changing in Singapore. Its been awhile since I've been to Orchard so I was shocked when I saw that the garden behind Orchard MRT has been destroyed.

Seems that "Ma ma shop" that used to operate in the block next to mine is not making a comeback as its shutters remain shut.
Today is a sad day.

Don't take things for granted

Its easy to take things for granted. I was reminded about this during my 3 day field exercise where I missed hot showers, air-conditioning, ice cold Coke, my queen-size bed, TV, my PC and of course my love.

Reservist joke 2

AC loves the eMart. He goes there daily, bought tons of stuff from the eMart over the past two weeks and accumulated enough goodies to fill a whole bag. Here is an excerpt of our conversation.
Me: (Upon seeing AC pack all his purchases into a huge bag) Wah!!! You bought the whole eMart ah? I think you cleared their stock.
AC: No lah. There were some items I wanted that were out of stock.
Conversation continues and here is the rest of it.
Me: (To all) How about we play basketball now?
W: Sure.
Me: I only have a spare shirt though. I wouldn't be able to change my pants and underwear.
AC: eMart sells disposable underwear but not all eMarts have them.
Me: Why don't you call Alice* and ask her if they have any?
W: (To me) You call Alice and ask her lah.
Me: No lah... she is not my type.
AC: But she not bad what.
All: (Laughter after a short pause)
Now we know why AC likes to go to eMart everyday *wink*

* Fictional name we gave the lady who works in the eMart.

Reservist joke

Conversation between W and I during ICT.
W: Hey, I can give you a lift in my car but you have to bathe first.
Me: Eh... can bathe lah but I got no new slacks to wear leh so no point. Also going to bathe when I get home.
W: Bathe lah!!!
Me: (Pauses for a moment) Can I put groundsheet in your car instead?
W: ???
The rest of the guys laughed their heads off.

Circular Quay

Pic provided by Anaconda. Taken in Sydney... reminds me of Southpoint in Perth.

Killjoy

Why do people have to ruin the fun of others? There's this guy amongst my group of basketball kakis. He's critical, obnoxious, arrogant and the list goes on. Every Sunday, he spoils my fun by just being himself. Today was the last straw, he wanted to punch a kid and had to be restrained by two other guys. I was sickened and decided to call it a night.
I don't count him as a friend... friends are important so folks, do surround yourself with good friends. They play an important role in your life.

Doc Cheng's

My bird and I had our anniversary dinner at Doc Cheng's. I was very impressed with the fact that they served tasty and freshly-made Nan bread as an appertizer instead of the typical garlic bread that most restaurants serve. The portions of the main course were tiny but appetizing. Nice ambience but inconsistent service. My verdict? Can try.

Do I look that young?

I've been going back for my reservist the past five days. In five days, I have had four different persons ask me if I'm an NSF or regular. Do I really look that young?

What makes the difference?

I have a reservist friend. Both of us are the same age but we are at different stages of our IT career. He is a Senior Manager in an MNC and is in line for a promotion to Deputy Director next year. I on the other hand, am an Engineer in an MNC who can't even get a major raise after getting my CISSP... let alone get promoted to Senior Engineer.
What differentiates us? Luck? Experience? Knowledge? Qualifications? Personality? Generosity of your superior? Versatility? Opportunity?
Can anyone tell me?

Boo boos

In light of Paul Robinson's blunder against Croatia... its little consolation but he's not the only goalie to make a boo boo on the field.

Worrying

My fitness is deteriorating with every year. Two years ago, I passed my physical fitness test without training for it. Last year my standards dropped and this year it went down yet again. I'm very concerned!!!

OMG

My birthday is coming soon and I finally know what I want!!! Hahahahaha.

Bunch of assholes

Its been awhile since I've "ranted" so I guess its about time for one. Went back for my reservist today and found out that some fucking pricks took videos during their reservist and posted them on Youtube. Thanks to these black sheep, the rest of us have to suffer because camera phones have been banned in army camps.
And since I'm on a roll, I want to blast those inconsiderate bastards who like to leave a puddle of urine on the toilet floor and "deposit" tissues in the urinal. WHAT'S UP WITH THAT PEOPLE!!! I'm a guy too... I know its hard to control your pecker but please just stand closer to the urinal for goodness sakes. Btw there's something called a dustbin.

My new kicks!!!

My bird got me new kicks, the Rbk ATR Pump. Check it out!!! I used to be nuts about Reebok pumps until they became extinct. I'm glad that they are back because they are the only decent Rbks that I would wear.

What next?

Wine now comes in a can. Nothing much surprises me nowadays.

Preservation

One thing I learnt from my trips to Europe is that they are good at preserving old structures. Its easy to find medieval castles, Roman amphitheatres and many other monuments. Singapore is constantly changing and its hard to find structures that are old which is why I'm glad that the shophouses in Chinatown have been restored.
I'm sad when I see old photographs of buildings that used to exist in Singapore. One of them is the original National Library at Stamford Rd. I'm dreading the pending demolition of Clifford Pier.

Nightfall

I realised that my N70 is not very good for taking night pictures. Turns out that my previous mobile, the Nokia 6630, was much better at that even though it had less pixels to offer. Anyways... took pics of the Fountain of Wealth and Merlion. I never get tired of visiting the Merlion regardless of the fact that it was manufactured for tourism purposes.

2nd time

Watched a movie at the Starlight Nokia Cinema again on Thursday evening about a year after my first visit. Watched "The Breakup". I have to say that they have improved since my last trip because they had the initiative to give customers mats to sit on while watching the show. The only problem was that there were echos and it was hazy.
Check out the cool projector and nice view.

Check it out

Got this snazzy shoes from Paris. Wooooo! Don't I look smart? ;p

Strange

Had Rojak for lunch the other day. What's strange about it is that I saw the hawker add apple juice into the mix. Anyone ever witnessed this before?

"Most loyal reader award"

This award goes out to the most loyal reader of "The Hedonistic Man"... *drum roll* and the winner is... FENN!!! Congrats... you get a free plate of pork chop rice coming your way. Though you read my blog daily, you still can improve though by putting comments!!!
Jim... you got a good one here.

Bad luck

I have atrocious luck when it comes to buying things. I end up purchasing something that is faulty or breaks very quickly. The previous example was my Razer mouse which I couldn't click the left mouse button within 6 months of using it. Lucky thing that I managed to get a replacement unit.
The most recent example is the spanking new wireless gateway that I bought. No no no... it does as advertised but the flaming power adaptor gave out a strange loud humming sound when the power is on. Scary!!! Anyways... I had the whole set replaced and my gateway is now operational. I'm blogging using my secured wireless network at the moment. Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiicce!!!

HK eateries

HK eateries are springing up everywhere. Are they the new fad in town? Will they be here for the long haul? I have no idea. Went with April and Jim to a new HK eatery in Tiong Bahru. Based on the quality of the food, I think they are here to stay.
Check out this scrumptious pork chop rice. Mmmmmmmm.

Watch out

Why wasn't I blessed with skills like this? Will he be the star of the future? Only time will tell.
