Rarity

Isn't this a sight to behold? I remember the days when I was in the Army (1997-2000) and the public phone was a treasure. It was the only way we could get in touch with our loved ones. Fast forward to the millenium and its practically impossible to find one with almost everyone owning mobile phones. I remember going back for my reservist and not bringing my mobile. I couldn't make calls the entire day as there wasn't a single public phone to be found in that huge army camp.

Tourism board

I am very interested in participating in the Singapore Tourism Board's phototaking competition but I'm very unhappy with them for two reasons.
  1. They did not plan their competition properly resulting in me having problems submitting my photographs. There are two methods of submission: MMS or via their website. The photographs I intend to submit are 100+KB in size but my mobile does not permit me to send pics above 100KB. The STB website on the other hand does not allow me to upload pics below 500KB. !@#$%^&&*(
  2. I emailed their support email about this and didn't get a reply. I called their hotline at 5.25pm and the lady was cheeky enough to tell me that the person supporting this competition had gone home already and told me to call back. I insisted that I wanted that person to call me back the following day but the person on the line was too lazy to take down my particulars. I was adamant that I wanted them to call me back because I did not want to be put on hold again but got a very rude response from the STB staff.
I'm very very very unhappy STB. I am tempted to write a complain letter to the newspapers.

Pissed

I'm angry with Google not because of the service they provide me but because their share price keeps heading upward. I wanted to get them when they were US$100 per share at the IPO stage and now they have broken the US$400 mark.
Grrrrrrrrrrrr. However knowing my luck, they probably would be below US$100 if I really got my hands on them.

Robbery

I would be naive to think that no crime ever happens in Singapore but I found it surreal witnessing the aftermath of a robbery having never seen it in Singapore*. There's this uncle who sells curry puff everyday outside Yio Chu Kang MRT and I pass him every morning on the way to my bus queue.
I was walking towards the bus queue yesterday morning when I saw this foreigner running away from the curry puff uncle and he was frantically trying to chase after him. The thief nearly got knocked down by a car while making his getaway. I couldn't decipher if it was curry puffs that he stole or $$. It would be sad if he risked his life and arrest for a few curry puffs (not that stealing $$ is excusable).

* Witnessed crime in Perth, Australia while studying.

Same old story again

I frequently get into discussion with friends about why its important to secure their home PCs. They often have this mentality that "nobody is interested in my PC" and that's why they can't be bothered. I'm starting to sound like an old record. The "bad guys" are after your home computers because they're easier targets compared to organisations. Their main motivation is $$$ as they stand to earn revenue by using your computer as spamming machines, launchpads to attack others and even rent your comprised machines to other hackers.
Here's an benign example* of how easy it is to trigger an application on your computer without physical access to it. Imagine someone with malicious intent exploiting this already published vulnerability.
Need help? You know where to find me.

*Don't worry, I've tested it personally first before providing the link here.

!@#$%^&*(_+

Booohooooooo... I fell down while trying to make my way out of the office gate. I hurt both hands and scraped my knee. To make matters worse, my mobile went flying while I fell and now its very badly scratched!!! Low morale now :(

Liverpool fans beware!!!

There's a phishing scam circulating to con Liverpool fans into divulging their personal details. You were warned!!!

"Kwa Zhang"

Ahahahahahhahaha. This is part of a billboard ad touting Jay Chou's latest CD. I couldn't resist taking this snapshot because I found the edited photo of this girl absolutely "kwa zhang" to the point of being totally hilarious!!!

Mission accomplished

Ahhhhhh... how are you my old friend? Its been awhile since I had Cherry Coke and I finally achieved the objective I set of drinking it again. Mmmmmmmmm. My hedonistic ways led me to discover more amazing beverages including an amazing "Teh Peng", Jap yogurt drink and "Coke with Lemon".

Scenes from heaven

This is one of those times where words are not necessary.

Wedding

Photos taken from my poly schoolmate's wedding lunch.

Change of career

This is a reminder to me why I would like to become a photographer if I do consider a career change. I learnt of this chap, Yann, when I came across an outdoor exhibit of his work along Tanglin Rd. Amazing!!!

Next mission

Now that I've tackled locating Dr Pepper in Singapore. My next mission is finding a way of getting Cherry Coke. Mmmmmm... I can't forget the taste of it in my mouth. Can't figure out why they dropped it after introducing it to Singapore previously. This is my tribute to Cherry Coke. Hear hear.

Singapore Beauty

Watched the movie "American Beauty"? Remember the scene where the character shows a film of a plastic bag floating in the wind? Well I came across a discarded plastic bag that was left on a branch after someone finished their tea. It was surreal seeing it floating gently in the wind. I couldn't help standing there admiring it and feeling at peace.

Bbaaaaaaaaaaaaallll

Today was the first time I watched a live professional basketball match. Went to the Indoor Stadium with April, Denis, Aik Peng and two of my most loyal blog fans (Jim and Fenn). Here's some pics from the game which the Perth Wildcats won. Strange though... I spent 3 years in Perth and never watched them but I watched a live Wildcats game in Singapore. Ahahahhahaha. Check out my travelling feet with my pre-game hotdog. Mmmmmmmmm.

Currently listening to

Five For Fighting - Dying
"Dying, Dying to die just to come back so we can meet again"
Devotion and fanaticism... such a fine line and this lyrics taken from the chorus of the song is a good example. Me? I'm a romantic and I appreciate the beauty of these words. I'm pretty sure there are people who disagree.

Its that time of the year again

My gosh. Time really flies and I haven't even been having that much fun. Its that time of the year again and here's a reminder.

You know the new year is coming when Borders brings out all the calendars as well.

More Star Wars goodies

Passed by this amazing toy shop on the way to playing Pool. OMG... amazing goodies. Too bad I don't have enuff $$$ and space, if not I will be buying them like crazy. Did you guys notice the lightsaber? It lights up and makes the real swooshing sound like in the movies. Niiiiiccccceeee. You guys got ideas for my birthday which coincidentally is approaching? ;p Ahahahahhahaha.

Hypnosis anyone?

Hahahahahah. Passed by this joint this evening and was blown away by this signboard. Like they say "a picture speaks a thousand words" so I won't even bother elaborating.

Carl's

April has been telling me about Carl's. Haven't had a chance to eat their burgers yet but their adverts are quite saucy and different. Here are some examples.

Hybrid!!!

Ho eh ho eh!!! What can I say? Who ever thought of morphing Star Wars and Transformers together? Now you have it... Star Wars now has action figures that can transform into vehicles.

Sexy

Seeeeeeeeeexxxyyy!!! I've never liked rbk Iverson shoes but I love the latest one, rbk Iverson IX. I don't know if its the latest design or the fact that it has the "Pump". Newsflash, rbk is now owned by Adidas in case you guys didn't know. A quick survey... which shoe do you prefer? The Iverson IX on the left or Nike's Huarache 2005 (which I already own by the way)? Please submit your choice as a comment. Thanks ;p

Feels like heaven

Aaaaaaaaaahhh. I finally got my paws on some Dr Pepper at 85 cents each. Mmmmmm. Definately beats paying S$3.50 at Jerry's or S$11 at Harry's Bar. Got them from Cold Storage in Compass Point. The Sushi Man (TSM) initially had doubts about finding any but we went in at my insistence that we had nothing to lose. I believe strongly in the 50-50 rule ;p* Check out the cool pic of Dr Pepper "on the move" as it was taken while the cans were moving along the conveyor belt. Cooooooolll.

* Watch "The Best Bet" if you're wondering what I mean.

My journey home

Some pics taken on the way home from pool today.

BBQ Pork Belly

Mmmmmmmm. I love the BBQ Pork Belly served at this Korean restaurant along Mosque St. Note there are two restaurants. Go to the one that is older and less flashy. The food there is amazing and so is the service. 5 thumbs up!!!

"You place the lime in the Coke, you nut, and drink it all up."

Damn... ahahahahahahha. This jingle keeps playing in my head and my taste buds finally got the chance to try it. My verdict? So so. It just tastes like Coke mixed with Sprite.

Rare

In an era where players are cut-throat and go on strike when they don't get indecent pay increaments, Roma's Tommasi is one rare breed. He requested for the minimum wage allowable by law. Incredible.

Zombies

Was telling me friend about how important it is to secure your home PC. Here is an example why. The "bad guys" are no longer nerds sitting at home with nothing better to do. They are criminals whose main objectives are to make $$$ by taking advantage of innocent home users either on their own or as part of organised crime.
Damn... this guy made enough $$$ to buy himself a BMW. I hate to admit it but its putting ideas into my head. Neeeeehhh... I'm too straight an arrow.

"You're going to get burnt just like my office cafeteria toast."

Ahahahahahahahaha. Just me doing some trash talking. Had a blast today playing bball as I was feeling the groove. Thanks to Denis for helping take this photo of geeky o'me.

What is it about hard-top convertibles?

I don't know. I can't resist hard-top convertibles. I like the models from Peugeot and Lexus. Saw one this afternoon when I went to NIE to play bball. Mmmmmmmm.
