Economy Candy

Ian Wright visited this candy store while in New York. I will definitely visit this store during my next trip to the "Big Apple".

Need a temporary email address?

You know how some websites offer free content but before they allow you to download them... they require you to leave your email address? This site issues you a temporary email address with a life-span of 10 minutes. Useful if you dislike getting spammed.

Panama

Stumbled onto these pics while researching Panama on Google Earth. Now that I've conquered Europe... my attention is turned to South America. I want to visit Brazil and Cuba. Bolivia and Costa Rica are intriguing as well.

Bogey team

Told RH that West Ham is Blackburn's bogey team. Sadly, my words rang true as West Ham "hammered" Rovers 4-1. Rovers had 2 glorious chances to equalise when they were 2-1 down but Matt Derbyshire's goal was wrongly flagged for offside and Jason Robert's unconvincing penalty kick was saved by Robert Green. Disappointing first loss for Paul Ince... and of all teams... to a team he used to play for.

Gathering

With life's commitments, it is difficult to catch up with old friends. I was happy to meet up with DS and Jim but I had some errands to run before our lunch. April couldn't resist getting some Crayfish Hor Fun from Hong Lim before our lunch appointment but I opted out because I wanted to reserve my tummy for the fried chicken later. Mooncakes on display.

Mosaic formed by food court tables and chairs. National Day flags with the bright sky in the background.

Approaching the Singapore Flyer. View of the Benjamin Sheares Bridge from below. Old buddies preparing to wolf down Popeye chicken.

The Singapore Flyer from the ground.

Geeky

I like Splunk because they give out T-Shirts with techie slogans. I managed to get these 2. Did I mention that they are Hanes T-Shirts?

Punggol

Its been years since I've been to Punggol. I am aware that Punggol is close to the edge of Singapore and that it could be considered the countryside... but I was expecting more buildings than this.

Laggard

M$ announces that they will include a private browsing feature in Internet Explorer 8. Great you say? Safari has had this features for years! I guess its better to be late then never.

Double edged sword

LogMeIn is a nifty tool that permits you to remotely access your machine from anywhere over the Internet. It is easy to setup as it does not require modification to your existing network. However, it is a double edged sword as it bypasses perimeter security mechanisms in place (eg. firewalls, VPN, DMZ, 2 factor authentication, etc). It is a potential backdoor into your network if compromised by malicious parties. How does LogMeIn work? The host establishes a persistent outbound HTTPS connection to LogMeIn's server and this connection facilitates reverse tunneling from an external browser.

Space Station infected

NASA Space Station was infected with a virus that was suspected to have been introduced via a USB drive. Even Space Stations are not spared from malware... let alone home PCs.

Lame!

Computer containing bank customers' personal details was accidentally sold on eBay. Investigations under way to determine how this type of mistake could have been made. Readers... wipe your computer or laptop hard drive before you dispose of them. Use Dban to securely wipe data on your hard drives so that they cannot be recovered. NIST recommends 1 pass... the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) recommends either 3 or 7 passes (depending on the sensitivity of the data)... for the paranoid like me, I use 35 passes*.
Another story hot off the press. Best Western had their network breached. Hacker plants a Trojan Horse and manages to steal 8 million credit card details. Best Western's PR people are hard at work... claiming that only 10 customers were affected by the hack. What fool would believe that hackers would waste their time for 10 credit card numbers?

* Only if you can spare the time to wait for 35 passes to complete.

Day off

Attended a full day seminar today. They didn't provide breakfast so I headed to LJS with RH. Check out the chunky chicken meat. Mmmmmmm. Comes with Orange Juice for a reasonable price of S$3. Headed upstairs to try to get the "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" tickets for Thursday but had to wait because the bloody counters were empty. So much for their slogan "The Cineplex That Never Sleeps".

Saw a bus stop that resembles a McDonald's outlet. Pretty cool.

WTF

Abbreviation for a common expletive phrase. Also abbreviation for the "World Taekwondo Federation" as I found out from reading the article about the Cuban Taekwondo star who was banned for life after kicking a referee at the Olympics.
