You pay peanuts...

you get monkeys. Article comparing pay of local pre-school teachers against the pay of European cleaners. Not exactly comparing apples against apples but the morale of the story is that you pay for what you get. If teachers ain't getting compensated adequately, what quality of education will your kids receive?

pre-school teachers are overworked too. When I was working as one, all I can think of is work. I get off work, I have to do lesson plans at home, plan activities.

Teachers in day cares have it worse. Not only do they have to conduct lessons, they have to bathe the kids, feed the younger ones, clean them up, prepare them for naps, remember to give them their meds and wipe their butts.

The teacher to kids ratio isn't fantastic. I had about thirteen 3 and 4-year-olds at a time. can you imagine having to bathe 13 kids, clothe them in half and hour? During lessons, there are so many interruptions, one wanting to go to the toilet some are hyper active, one plainly just wander off and then, some kid has to pee in his/her pants in the middle of a class. How to conduct lessons like that?

Now you know why boo is happier that I am not working! Hahaha. I do miss work sometimes, but often, I do feel under appreciated, over worked.

Yikes. I agree that educators and care-givers are never adequately appreciated. Parents are not making the situation any better.

Isn't it worse now in the recent years that parents are so overtly protective of their kids? When the bloody kids complain that they get as much as being just scolded, the parents buay song and question the skills of teachers to the high heavens. I don't remember my parents being so protective in my days. Bloody hell...teachers used to smack my head with a damn book!
with such peanuts pay, you wonder why people refrain from going to teaching as a career.

Hear hear. I agree with you totally. I blame parents for their kids being spoilt, rowdy and out of control.
