How can anyone be so lazy?

I've witnessed many things in my lifetime on earth but what I witnessed today really takes the cake. I entered the lift with a mother-daughter pair. I pressed the button for my floor and so did they. Guess what??? They live on the 2nd floor!!!
We are not talking about senior citizens here... the two of them were healthy, energetic and mobile individuals. I am puzzled and still reeling from that encounter. Can anyone explain this to me?

They have a campaign in Hong Kong to encourage people living in high-rises to use the stairs instead of the elevators. I saw it on Hong Kong TV when I was there. They stick little red feet on the floor leading from the main door of the building past the lifts to the staircase to remind people to get some exercise by taking the stairs. This obviously wouldn't work if you were on the 29th floor but hey walk three floors and catch the lift the rest of the way.
